Malaysia-Singapore Alumni Networking weekend @ Malacca (5/6th May 2007)
For the first time ever, the Monash Alumni Group (MAG)-Malaysia Alumni, and the Monash University Alumni Association Singapore (MUAAS) held a joint interaction event at scenic Malacca, Malaysia., Some 32 Monash alumni from both Malaysia and Singapore attended this 2-day event which took place over the weekend from 5 to 6 May 07, coming together to strengthen the Monash connection and relive their days at Monash.
Besides sight-seeing and enjoying the great local cuisine of Malacca, the event also included a "Heart 2 Heart" session where Mr. John Kearsey from the Monash Alumni Relations Office articulated the "Monash Direction 2025" and also facilitated the engagement on "Gearing the Monash Alumni for Success". While there was no doubt that the event was highly beneficial as a platform for Monash alumni to share and learn about each other, more importantly the event continues to be a source to strengthen the Monash identity and enhance the Monash Team spirit.
Ms. Heidi Ooi, an alumna who attended the MUAAS's activity for the first time, was in a reflective mood as she recounted her undergraduate days at Clayton. Mr. Robert Zhu, an Australian alumnus now working in Malaysia, was truly thrilled to be present and delighted that the event had given him the opportunity to link him up with fellow Monash alumni in Malaysia and Singapore.
As the event came to a close on Sunday evening, Ms. Cheryl Teh, President MAG Malaysia Team, and Mr. Baranathan Kumaran, President MUAAS, were both very happy with the level of engagement and the unexpected positive returns from this initiative. Mr. Kearsey, representing the Monash Alumni Relation Office, highlighted his pleasure with the outcome of the event and acknowledged that a milestone had been laid to pave the way for both MAG and MUAAS to create new dynamics in engaging Monash students and graduates in this part of the world.
