June 2007's Pre-departure Briefing @ Hilton Hotel (21st June 2007)

Monash Uni's International Student Support Unit (ISSU) organised a pre-departure briefing in Singapore for the new students going to Monash's Australian campuses in July '07.

Ms Jayne Parsons (ISSU, Clayton), Ms Wendy Bastock (ISSU, Caulfield) and Ms Tricia Thorne (Monash Residential Services, Peninsula) arrived in Singapore a day earlier to catch up with past graduates, sampled local hawker food & did a little sight-seeing before getting down to business.

Around 60 new students arrived at Hilton Hotel where the Pre-departure Briefing started off with information on Australia, its local culture & what to prepare. They also talked about the various accomodation options available and the services provided to international students on-campus.

Bara, our current MUAAS President, welcomed the new students to the global Monash community, and made a quick 5-minute presentation to introduce the local alumni community, our activities and services we provide to new/current students.

A select 5-person Student Panel consisting of current students, recent & older graduates then went on-stage to share their personal experiences.

The new students are later split into campus groups where more than 20 Monash alumni answered the call to volunteer to answer queries by the new students and their parents about studying & living in Australia, and offer campus-specific information.
