Ol' English Night @ Penny Black (19th July 2007)
Pints of ale, humble pies and crispy chips;
Glasses of wine, cube steaks and salad dips;
Conversations flow, memories unfold, young and old;
Chandeliers, laughing tears, another great year;
Warm glowing light, mood set right; what a sight!
That’s MUAAS “Ol’ English Night”!
The MUAAS Ol’ English Night was set against the backdrop of a snug Victorian bar atmosphere. Held at The Penny Black Victorian London Pub on a Thursday evening, the Monash alumni took this opportunity to unwind while taking in the views of the Singapore River in the bustling island state.
Attended by graduates across the decades from 1969 to 2006, they were introduced to one another, then shared their experiences and reminisced over their University days at Monash.
Just before tucking into the spread of English food, Mr Barathan Kumaran, MUAAS President, welcomed all the Monash alumni to the event and took the opportunity to introduce the upcoming MUAAS activities.
As the evening progressed and the spirits flowed, conversations were as varied as the snacks on offer – business ideas were exchanged, many rooted for a Monash Singapore photography interest group, and many new friends were made.
For alumna Lim YuWen, a Malaysian working in Singapore, she was happy to have attended the event, making full use of her Thursday evening to catch up with fellow Uni-mates from the class of 2000. And to alumnus Paul Yap, the MUAAS Ol’ English Night was simply not to be missed – a time to indulge himself with some fine food and spirits in the company of fellow Monash graduates.
