21st February '08 - Business Networking Night
“In an uncertain world there are three things that are certain: One; no one can control the pace of globalization; Two; we are all going to live longer given the development and advancement in life sciences; Three; the cost of retirement will continue to rise. These are the certainties that characterized the current realities of the society we live and the world before us. ”
The above theme was what Monash alumni took back with them after attending the exclusive MUAAS Business Networking Night on 21 Feb 08. Participants who paid $45 ($35 for MUAAS member) to attend this Thursday evening found that the programme had expanded beyond the scope of networking to include learning about career options and long term retirement planning from two topical presentations.
The first presentation was a brief introduction about “CONTACT SINGAPORE” by Ms Elsie Ng from the Singapore Ministry of Manpower. This brand name (www.contactsingapore.org.sg) established under the arm of the Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower is aimed to attract global talents to work in Singapore.
The second topical presentation was on “Career Change and Impact on Retirement Planning” by Monash alumnus Carol Yip, CEO and founder of ABACUS FOR MONEY (www.abacusformoney.com), a financial consultancy establishment from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was the latter that invoked participants to reflect about their life purpose, the need for work-life balance and long term financial security.
As the evening came to a close, Monash alumni expressed that the event was lively and engaging as it fused the elements of networking, personal development and reflection to open new possibilities. Well, there were a few who found the topics a bit heavy to go along with the fine food and sparkling wine, but acknowledged that there was the element of fun during the engagement.
This exclusive event with limited capacity which attracted more than 40 Monash alumni was held at Café D’ Amigo, a cozy restaurant located at Funan Digital Mall, which serves fine food and boasts a large collection of affordable premium wine and spirits.
