Welcome from the President
Dear Alumni members
It is a personal honor and privilege to be elected as the President to lead a dedicated and highly stimulating group of Monashians in Singapore. The recent increase in recognition by the Monash University Council, of Monash Alumni, numbering over 200,000 with about 55,000 internationally, and with more than 6000 within Singapore bodes well for MUAAS with the increase in Alumni activity.
The recently inaugurated Alumni Summit, held in Melbourne in August ‘07, with participation from Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysian, Singapore and Thailand demonstrate the commitment of Monash University to its Alumni worldwide. The 2nd Monash Alumni Summit has been confirmed for June ’08 in Singapore. The Alumni Relations Office, with the effervescent John Kearsey, and Alumnus Leonie Boxtel, is leading the charge and MUAAS is at the forefront of this movement.
The almost instantaneous web updates, internet discussion groups, with MUAAS’s own alumni professional photographer have made the MUAAS website even more active than the Alumni Relations website.
Working with this group of talented individuals with their fondness and memories of Monash, is exciting, learning even now of their personal and professional experiences each time we meet. The meaning of the motto of Monash University, Ancora Imparo ('I am still learning'), comes to reality with each passing experience.
In June 2008, the 6th edition of the Australian Universities International Alumni Conference (AUIAC2008) is being held in Singapore and MUAAS will be organising activities for visiting Monashians. I hope that the Monash Alumni in Singapore will demonstrate the level of welcome Singapore is known by for the international delegates.
I am also pleased to announce that TeamMonash’s Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2007 has exceeded last year’s numbers, with an additional 2 full bus loads of Malaysian Alumni participating, it will be a roaring success.
Other confirmed activities to close off 2007 include 2nd Nov - Penny Black TGIF gathering, 17th Nov - Coffee Appreciation course, and the 2nd Dec Marathon with its pre and post gatherings.
I am looking forward to the next 12 months of exciting and fulfilling activities and meeting new faces and sharing of experiences.
See you all soon and remember, life is to be enjoyed and savored.
Charles Lee
